【摘要】:Theprimarypurposeoftheunconfinedcompressiontestistoquicklyobtainameasureofcompressivestrengthforthosesoilsthatpossesssufficientcohesiontopermittestingintheunconfinedstate.Samplesofsoilshavingslickensidedorfissuredstructure,samplesofsometypesofloess,verysoftclays,dryandcrumblysoilsandvarvedmaterials,orsamplescontainingsignificantportionsofsiltorsand,orboth(allofwhichusuallyexhibitcohesiveproperties),frequentlydisplayhighershearstrengthswhentestedinaccordancewithTestMethodD2850.Also,unsaturatedsoilswillusuallyexhibitdifferentshearstrengthswhentestedinaccordancewithTestMethodD2850.Iftestsonthesamesampleinbothitsintactandremoldedstatesareperformed,thesensitivityofthematerialcanbedetermined.Thismethodofdeterminingsensitivityissuitableonlyforsoilsthatcanretainastablespecimenshapeintheremoldedstate.Note28212;Forsoilsthatwillnotretainastableshape,avanesheartestorTestMethodD2850canbeusedtodeterminesensitivity.Note38212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfensurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheunconfinedcompressivestrengthofcohesivesoilintheintact,remolded,orreconstitutedcondition,usingstrain-controlledapplicationoftheaxialload.1.2Thistestmethodprovidesanapproximatevalueofthestrengthofcohesivesoilsintermsoftotalstresses.1.3Thistestmethodisapplicableonlytocohesivematerialswhichwillnotexpelorbleedwater(waterexpelledfromthesoilduetodeformationorcompaction)duringtheloadingportionofthetestandwhichwillretainintrinsicstrengthafterremovalofconfiningpressures,suchasclaysorcementedsoils.Dryandcrumblysoils,fissuredorvarvedmaterials,silts,peats,andsandscannotbetestedwiththismethodtoobtainvalidunconfinedcompressionstrengthvalues.Note1Thedeterminationoftheunconsolidated,undrainedstrengthofcohesivesoilswithlateralconfinementiscoveredbyTestMethodD2850.1.4ThistestmethodisnotasubstituteforTestMethodD2850.1.5AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026.1.5.1Theproceduresusedtospecifyhowdataarecollected/recordedandcalculatedinthistestmethodareregardedastheindustrystandard.Inaddition,theyarerepresentativeofthesignificantdigitsthatshouldgenerallyberetained.Theproceduresuseddonotconsidermaterialvariation,purposeforobtainingthedata,specialpurposestudies,oranyconsiderationsfortheuser''sobjectives;anditiscommonpracticetoincreaseorreducesignificantdigitsofreporteddatatocommensuratewiththeseconsiderations.Itisbeyondthescopeofthistestmethodtoconsidersignificantdigitsusedinanalysismethodsforengineeringdesign.1.6ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsareapproximate.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems......
