【摘要】:Identificationofarecoveredoilisdeterminedbycomparisonwithknownoils,selectedbecauseoftheirpossiblerelationshiptotheparticularrecoveredoil.Theknownoilsarecollectedfromsuspectedsources.Samplesofsuchknownoilsmustbecollectedandsubmittedalongwiththeunknownforanalysis.Atpresent,identificationofthesourceofanunknownoilbyitselfcannotbemade(forexample,fromalibraryofknownoils).Theuseofaflame-photometricdetectorinadditiontotheflame-ionizationdetectorprovidesasecond,independentprofileofthesameoil,thatis,significantlymoreinformationisavailablefromasingleanalysiswithdualdetection.Manyclosesimilarities(withinuncertaintiesofsamplingandanalysis)willbeneededtoestablishidentitybeyondareasonabledoubt.Theanalysesdescribedwilldistinguishmany,butnotallsamples.Forcasesinwhichthismethoddoesnotclearlyidentifyapairofsamples,andforimportantcaseswhereadditionalcomparisonsareneededtostrengthenconclusions,otheranalyseswillberequired(refertoPracticeD3415).Inparticular,PracticeD5739isusefulforsuchcases.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthecomparisonofpetroleumoilsrecoveredfromwaterorbeacheswithoilsfromsuspectsourcesbymeansofgaschromatography(1,2,3).Suchoilsincludedistillatefuel,lubricatingoil,andcrudeoil.Thetestmethoddescribedisforcapillarycolumnanalysesusingeithersingledetection(flameionization)ordualdetection(flameionizationandflamephotometric)forsulfurcontainingspecies.1.2Thistestmethodprovideshighresolutionforcriticalexaminationoffinestructurethatisresistanttoweathering.Theflame-photometricdetectionforsulfurcomponentsisanadjunct,notasubstitute,forflame-ionizationdetectionintheidentificationofwaterbornepetroleumoils().Forthisreason,flamephotometricdetectionisoptional.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
