【摘要】:ThepHofthesoilisausefulvariableindeterminingthesolubilityofsoilmineralsandthemobilityofionsinthesoilandassessingtheviabilityofthesoil-plantenvironment.pHmeasurementsaremadeinbothwaterandacalciumchloridesolutionbecausethecalciumdisplacessomeoftheexchangeablealuminum.Thelowionicstrengthcountersthedilutioneffectontheexchangeequilibriumbysettingthesaltconcentrationofthesolutionclosertothatexpectedinthesoilsolution.ThepHvaluesobtainedinthesolutionofcalciumchlorideareslightlylowerthanthosemeasuredinwaterduetothereleaseofmorealuminumionswhichthenhydrolyses.Therefore,bothmeasurementsarerequiredtofullydefinethecharacterofthesoilrsquo;pH.ForthepurposeofthistestmethodthetestsoilmustbesievedthroughaNo.10sieve(2mmsievemeshopenings).Measurementsonsoilsorsoilfractionshavingparticlesizeslargerthan2mmbythistestmethodmaybeinvalid.Ifsoilorsoilfractionswithparticleslargerthan2mmareused,itmustbestatedinthereportsincetheresultsmaybesignificantlydifferent.AllwaterusedforthistestmethodmustbeASTMTypeIIIorbetter.TypeIIIwaterisdefinedbySpecificationD1193.Itispreparedbydistillation,ionexchange,reverseosmosis,oracombinationthereof.1.1ThistestmethodcoversthemeasurementofthepHofsoilsforusesotherthanforcorrosiontesting.Suchmeasurementsareusedintheagricultural,environmental,andnaturalresourcesfields.Thismeasurementdeterminesthedegreeofacidityoralkalinityinsoilmaterialssuspendedinwateranda0.01Mcalciumchloridesolution.Measurementsinbothliquidsarenecessarytofullydefinethesoil''spH.Thisvariableisusefulindeterminingthesolubilityofsoilmineralsandthemobilityofionsinthesoilandassessingtheviabilityofthesoil-plantenvironment.Amoredetaileddiscussionoftheusefulnessofthisparameterisnotwarrantedhere;however,itcanbefoundinmanydiscussionsofthesubject.AfewsuchdiscussionsaregivenasRefs(1-6)attheendofthetext.1.2ThevaluesgiveninSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
