【摘要】:Thispracticeestablishesthebasicparametersforcontrollingtheapplicationoftheliquidpenetrantmethod.Thispracticeiswrittensoitcanbespecifiedontheengineeringdrawing,specification,orcontract.Itisnotadetailedhow-toproceduretobeusedbytheinspectorand,therefore,mustbesupplementedbyadetailedprocedurethatconformstotherequirementsofthispractice.TestMethodE165containsinformationtohelpdevelopdetailedhow-torequirements.1.1Thispracticeestablishestheminimumrequirementsforconductingliquidpenetrantexaminationofnonporousmetal,andnonmetalcomponents.1.2Thepenetrantexaminationprocessesdescribedinthispracticeareapplicabletoin-process,final,andmaintenance(in-service)inspections.Theseprocessesareapplicableforthedetectionofdiscontinuities,suchaslackoffusion,corrosion,cracks,laps,coldshuts,andporosity,thatareopenorconnectedtothesurfaceofthecomponentunderexamination.1.3Cautionmustbeexercisedintheusageofelevatedtemperaturewithcomponentsmanufacturedfromthermoplasticmaterials.Also,somecleaners,penetrants,anddeveloperscanhaveadeleteriouseffectonnonmetallicmaterialssuchasplastics.Priortoexamination,testsshouldbeconductedtoensurethatnoneofthecleaningorinspectionmaterialsareharmfultothecomponentstobeexamined.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsareregardedasstandard.TheSIunitsgiveninbracketsareforinformationonly.1.5Allareasofthispracticemaybeopentoagreementbetweenthecognizantengineeringorganizationandthesupplier,orspecificdirectionfromthecognizantengineeringorganization.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
